"Kay Davis Johnson
Mrs. Johnson, 64, of Mint Hill, NC died January 5, 2009 at her home after a long battle of 16 years with cancer.
Kay was born February 24, 1944 in Statesville, NC, to the late Burl Lee Davis and Reba Ann Troutman Davis. She graduated from Statesville Senior High School in 1962. In 1964, she graduated from Mitchell College. In 1965 she graduated from Charlotte Memorial School of Histology. Upon graduating from Bowman Gray School of Cytotechnology in Winston-Salem in 1966, she accepted a position as a cytotechnologist at Diagnostic Laboratories in Charlotte. Kay was employed at Laboratory Corporation of American from 1992 until 2004 as a cytotechnologist.
Kay was married to the late Spencer W. Johnson III. She is survived by three sons, Jeffrey Johnson and wife Jennifer of Fuquay Varina, NC, Andrew Johnson and wife Stephanie of Charlotte, NC, and Brian Johnson of Charlotte; and her sister, Helen Rufty. She is also survived by 5 grand daughters, Kendall, Avery, Peyton, Ansley and Emerson.
Kay was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for 12 years before moving to Mint Hill in 1980. There she joined Morning Star Lutheran Church and continued to be involved until her death. She enjoyed skiing, gardening, needlework, knitting, gourmet cooking, and especially time spent with her grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2008 at Morning Star Lutheran Church, 12509 Idlewild Rd., Matthews, NC 28105. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Morning Star Lutheran Church or Hospice of Union County, 700 W. Roosevelt Blvd, Monroe, NC 28110.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. William Mitchell and his staff at Carolina Cancer Care for the excellent and loving care that was given to Kay and her family.
